Saturday was the Stranraer 10K and the day I found another nemisis.
The fantastic drive down the coast to Stranraer brought back many happy memories of trips to Sandhead on holidays. I arrived with an hour to spare which left plenty of time to prepare for the race. The start was a kilometre from the finish but buses had been laid on to transport runners to the start line. This was probably most useful for people like me who didn't know where they were going.
The nemisis came in the form of a hill which started at 3K and last a good three quarters of a kilometre. It's the steepest hill I've encountered on a race and was one that I would've struggled to walk up never mind run. Half way up my heart rate was at 182 which is the point I decided that walking was sensible. Thankfully the course from 5K onwards was all downhill and probably contributed to my 1 hour 8mins finishing time. It's my worse time so far but I'm just pleased to have finished it especially after that hill.
That's the hill at Stranraer and the Black Rock 5 that I have to beat next year. Both have got the better of me this year but I'm determined to come back stronger next year!
Sunday was another trip down memory lane as I was covering the breakfast show on Kingdom FM. It's been a long time since I've had to get up that early to do a show. There's something very personal about being on air at 6am on a Sunday morning. It really does feel like it's just you and the listener alone in the world while everyone else sleeps.
Tonight I've been working on webby things one of which I'll write about later in the week (once it's released) and the second of which was my own website. Anyone that's been to it recently will know it's had lots of broken bits since I moved to the virtual server. I've finally sorted it with the user of host headers which are allowing me to host more than one website with one IP address. It's something I've been aware of for a while but haven't had a chance to update recently due to work committments.
